MEET OUR TEAM

Antoine Miller- Director

Greetings,

My name is Antoine Miller and I serve as the Founder and Director of Bands for the Sounds of Success Community Marching Band, I have dedicated my life to music education, youth development, and creating opportunities for students to succeed both academically and musically. With more than a decade of experience in music education, my passion has always been centered on inspiring young people, building leadership, and helping students reach their fullest potential regardless of their circumstances.

I founded the Sounds of Success Community Marching Band on February 5, 2018, with only 10 students practicing at a local park without instruments. What began as a small vision has since grown into a respected and impactful community music program dedicated to empowering students from all backgrounds through discipline, leadership, education, and musical excellence.

My musical journey began at John F. Kennedy Middle School under the direction of Mr. Timothy E. Nance, where I performed in the drum line, served as section leader during my seventh-grade year, and later became Head Drum Major during my eighth-grade year. I continued my education at Palm Beach Lakes Community High School under the direction of the late Mr. Lonnie W. Greene Jr., who believed in my leadership abilities and gave me the opportunity to become Drum Major during my sophomore year. His mentorship and belief in my potential played a major role in shaping the leader and educator I am today.

I later attended the prestigious Florida A&M University, where I performed as a saxophonist with the world-renowned “Marching 100.” My experience at Florida A&M University strengthened my musicianship, leadership skills, and commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

Following my collegiate journey, I returned to education and began teaching at John F. Kennedy Middle School in 2012 as the After-School Band Director. In 2016, I launched the music program at Somerset Academy Lakes SLAM, and I served as the Dean of Students at the Arts Academy.

I'm committed to developing students academically, musically, and personally while providing quality music education to every child we serve. Through faith, dedication, and perseverance, I remain committed to making a lasting impact within the community while inspiring the next generation of musicians, leaders, and future professionals.

Ryan Overstreet- Director of Bands (Lower Brass)

Greetings,

My name is Ryan A. Overstreet, and I am a proud native of West Palm Beach, Florida, with a lifelong commitment to music, education, and youth development. My musical journey began at the age of five through the church, where I first discovered how music can build confidence, create discipline, and positively shape young lives.

At the age of eleven, I began formal instrumental training on the tuba under the direction of Mr. Joseph Bell at Roosevelt Middle School. During this time, I developed a strong foundation in musicianship, responsibility, teamwork, and personal growth. I later continued my education at Palm Beach Lakes Community High School as a dedicated member of the Ram Regiment Band, where I proudly served as Tuba and Sousaphone Section Leader from 10th through 12th grade. This leadership role allowed me to mentor younger students, encourage accountability, and help create a positive learning environment.

After high school, I continued my musical studies at Florida A&M University, where I had the honor of becoming a member of the world-renowned Incomparable Marching 100. This experience strengthened my understanding of excellence, structure, discipline, and the importance of high standards in student development.

I am currently pursuing my degree in Education at Palm Beach State College, where I continue preparing to serve students and families through teaching, mentorship, and leadership. My passion is to help young people grow not only as musicians, but also as respectful, confident, and successful individuals.

Families can trust that I value safety, professionalism, patience, and the well-being of every child I work with. I believe each student deserves encouragement, guidance, and the opportunity to reach their full potential in a supportive environment.

It is truly an honor to serve the youth of our community, and I look forward to helping students achieve success both in music and in life.

Troy Johnson- Director of Bands (Upper Brass)

Dominique Derraco-Franklin- (Head for the Dance Department)

Greetings,

My name is Troy Anthony Johnson Jr. and I am a dedicated musician, educator, and leader whose passion for music has been evident since his early years. His musical journey began in 2000 at John F. Kennedy Middle School, where he joined the Viking Warrior Band as a trumpet player. It was there that he first developed his foundation in musicianship, discipline, and performance, setting the stage for a lifelong commitment to the art.

From 2001 to 2005, Troy continued his musical growth at Palm Beach Lakes High School as a member of the trumpet section. His talent, leadership, and work ethic quickly distinguished him among his peers. By his junior and senior years, he earned the role of Assistant Section Leader of the trumpet line, where he helped guide and mentor fellow musicians while contributing to the strength and unity of the ensemble.

After graduating high school, Troy advanced to Florida A&M University (FAMU), where he proudly became a member of the world-renowned Marching 100. From the fall of 2005 through the end of the 2006 season, he marched with this prestigious organization, further refining his performance skills and embracing a culture of excellence, precision, and showmanship that would influence his musical career moving forward.

In 2010, Troy returned to his roots at John F. Kennedy Middle School in Riviera Beach, transitioning from performer to educator. He began assisting with the trumpet section and, by the 2011–2012 school year, stepped into the role of Assistant Band Director. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in developing young musicians, sharing his knowledge, and inspiring students to pursue excellence both on and off the field.

Continuing his commitment to music and community, Troy joined the Sounds of Success Community Marching Band in May 2018. His leadership and experience quickly made an impact, and in 2020 he was appointed Assistant Director of the Brass Section—a role he continues to hold. Through this position, he remains actively involved in shaping performances, mentoring musicians, and contributing to the band’s ongoing success and legacy.

With over two decades of experience as both a performer and educator, Troy Anthony Johnson Jr. exemplifies dedication, leadership, and a deep love for music. His journey reflects not only personal achievement but also a lasting commitment to uplifting others through the power of music.
